What it means to us...

International Literacy Day

Happy International Literacy DAY! A day to celebrate literature, highlight the importance of books, individuals, societys and communities and celebrate reading and books all round, not to mention a great excuse to buy more books...

I believe that books are incredibly important they help us learn, connect and learn new things, I love books, my book collection is huge it's a little bit ridiculous as I don't quite know where to put all my books.. I've even started stacking them in Alfie's stable which he doesn't seem to happy about...

I saw a quote on social media this morning which said 'The more you read the more you'll know. The more you learn the more places you will go' and I think this is true and a quote I personally can connect with.

It is said that millions of adults lack with literacy skills, I can relate to this massively I personally really stuggle with spelling it's never been my forte and until recent months I've only just learnt to spell 'Lasange' correctly, I seem to get words back to front and muddled up I can guarentee if you scroll through my blog posts there will be numerous mistakes but hey ho. I always though that if you couldn't spell you couldn't be a writing but this isn't the case firstly there is lots of writers who have writing issues or are in fact dyslexic but has it stopped them? No! I have also learnt in the past few years you can be whoever you want to be and do whatever you want hence why I am now a full time author and I love my job and creating new characters not to mention the stories.

International Literacy Day isn't just about us it's about the people out there in the world who don't have access to education in the world and it's about raising awarness and recognising this in the world. I saw another quote which I thought was very powerful

'Today a reader, Tomorrow a leader'

I visit lots of schools in the UK thoughtout the year and also local libarys and love promoting reading and writing and reading the Little Alf stories to the children, it's great to see when they can connect and enjoy the stories and ask questions at the end, it's almost a great sense of achievement that I am helping them to understand the book world and how stories work!

If you have any questions about books just tweet to us @AlfLittle
